This session will provide a summary of the history, equipment, comparative aspects, and case examples of veterinary radiation oncology.

Catie McDonald, DVM, DACVIM, DACVR graduated from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004. She then completed a rotating internship at VCA Aurora and Berwyn Animal Hospitals in the Chicagoland area. In 2005 she was accepted into a medical oncology residency at VCA Sacramento Veterinary Referral Center which she completed in 2008. Dr. McDonald then practiced at VCA Berwyn Animal Hospital for one year as a medical oncologist and then began her radiation oncology residency at VCA Aurora Animal Hospital in 2009 and completed it in 2011. She then moved to Portland, OR for the first time and worked as a medical oncologist at VCA Raleigh Hills Animal Hospital until 2013. Dr. McDonald became board certified in both medical and radiation oncology in 2013. In April 2013 she took a position at Sage Centers for Veterinary Specialty and Emergency Care in the San Francisco Bay Area until December 2015 when she decided to return to Oregon and began her position at VCA NWVS. While the radiation facility was built, she worked as a medical oncologist and the radiation oncology department opened in September 2020.
