This session will provide an overview of the world of Veterinary Radiation. Gain an understanding of the differences between protocols for humans and animals. Case studies treating canine tumors will be reviewed.

Learner Outcomes:

  1. Describe common tumors in dogs treated with radiation
  2. Explain how these tumors respond to radiation and the typical outcomes
  3. Describe how to set up patients for CT simulation and treatment

Presenter: Nate Van Asselt, DVM DACVR-RO, completed his veterinary medical degree at St. Goerge's University in Grenada in 2016.  Thereafter, he completed a one-year rotating small animal internship at VCA Aurora in the Chicago suburbs.  He then became a veterinary radiation oncologist after finishing a three-year residency at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2020.  Nate has since stayed at the University of Wisconsin as an assistant clinical professor and is one of four boarded veterinary radiation oncologists there.  His research is focused on intrafraction movement using real-time predictive motion management during radiation delivery in veterinary patients.
