Presented by Shahad Al-Ward, MSc

This presentation describes how a group at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre developed a 4D treatment planning methodology for the MRI linac (4DMRL method). How tumor tracking in the MRI-linac could potentially spare OARs will be outlined. The disease sites discussed are lung, pancreas, kidney and liver.

Learner Outcomes:

  1. Demonstrate the potential benefits of MRI linac over conventional treatmenent system for sites with significant breathing motion such as lung, kidney, liver and pancreas
  2. Compare conventional IMRT planning to the 4D planning method demonstrated in the webinar presentation
  3. Estimate potential OAR sparing and the resultant reduction in NTCP.

Presenter:  Shahad Al-Ward, MSc, began her academic journey at Toronto Metropolitan University, where she earned a master's in medical physics with a thesis that was heavily involved in dosimetry. Post-graduation, Shahad started working at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto, where she delved deeper into the world of dosimetry as a research assistant. Shahad later transitioned into the role of a Medical Physics Assistant at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Shahad is currently a medical dosimetry student the the University of Wisconsin, La Crosse.
